$500,000 bail for woman in Aurora carjacking, robbery

A 19-year-old was being held on $500,000 bail on charges she and two juveniles were involved in a carjacking and armed robbery in Aurora.

Taytianna B. Jones, of the 400 block of East Downer Place, faces felony charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking, armed robbery, vehicular invasion and possession of a stolen motor vehicle, according to Kane County court records and Aurora police.

A 14-year-old boy from Aurora and a 15-year-old girl from DeKalb were also charged, police said.

According to police, a 22-year-old Naperville man drove to the 700 block of Concord Street on the southeast side about 1:30 a.m. Saturday to meet a female he had been communicating with on the MeetMe social media app.

When he arrived, several people, including one who was armed, approached his car, pulled him from the vehicle, and began to beat and kick him, police said. The group took the man's cellphone, wallet and car keys before chasing him away and driving off in his vehicle, which was seen headed west on Evans Avenue.

The victim was treated for cuts and scrapes at an Aurora hospital.

Forty minutes later, police said, they learned that officers from the Bellwood Police Department had checked the license plate of the stolen car but had not known it was reported stolen. Bellwood police went back to where it was seen, near 30th Avenue and St. Charles Road, and saw six people in a car near the stolen one.

The six were detained after a replica gun was found in the vehicle, Aurora police said. The Kane County state's attorney's office authorized charges for Jones and two juveniles.

A 24-year-old Yorkville man and two 16-year-old boys from Chicago and DeKalb, were released.

Jones is next due in court Thursday and faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted of the most severe charge.

The two juveniles charged were taken to the Kane County youth home.
