Residents, pets displaced by Naperville house fire

Naperville firefighters and police rescued three residents and their pets from a house fire on the 800 block of South Whispering Hills Drive early Friday morning.

The fire was reported by one of the residents at 3:47 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, they saw no sign of smoke or fire on the exterior of the house, but then found the fire in an attic and bathroom area inside on the second floor.

The fire was quickly extinguished and confined to the area of origin, authorities said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and the house was declared uninhabitable for the time being.

First-responders notified the American Red Cross to provide assistance to the residents.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Naperville police, the Naperville Electric Department and Nicor Gas.

The Lisle Woodridge Fire Protection District and Downers Grove Fire Department covered Naperville's fire stations while the fire was being fought.
