Man changing tire on side of road killed in Naperville crash

A 26-year-old Itasca man changing a tire on the side of the road was killed in a crash early Tuesday morning in Naperville, police said.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was outside his Kia Optima near the intersection of 75th Street and Fort Hill Drive when he was struck by a car shortly after midnight.

According to the preliminary investigation, a 28-year-old man was driving a Subaru Impreza east on 75th Street when he struck the man.

The man was taken to Edward Hospital, where he died, police said.

Naperville police shut down the road for four hours while they investigated.

Police said Tuesday afternoon that it could be several days before charges are lodged against the Subaru driver as their crash investigators continue their reconstruction and investigation.
