Teen arrested in Aurora shooting; 3 men face gun charges

A 17-year-old Aurora boy has been charged in connection with a shooting Monday night in the area of Pearl Street and Sherman Avenue, according to reports.

Police secured video footage of several people in the intersection, one of whom fired a gun, after a report of numerous shots being fired in the area came in around 8:55 p.m. Monday, the Aurora Police Department said Tuesday in a Facebook post

The video showed the group running into an apartment in the 400 block of Sherman Avenue, and police arrested five people after officers searched the apartment and found a gun under a pile of clothing, according to the post.

Police said the shooter has been charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and a count each of unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated discharge of a firearm and not having a firearm owners identification card.

The shooter was taken to the Youth Home, while the others were released without charges, police said.

Police said several patrol officers conducting surveillance near Fenton and Loucks streets saw James M. Fultz, 47, of the 1100 block of Kane Street, get into his vehicle and drive away around 2:50 a.m. Saturday.

Officers who knew Fultz had a revoked driver's license stopped him in the 1100 block of Kane Street and found a loaded 9 mm handgun in the vehicle, which turned out to be reported stolen out of Kentucky, police said.

Fultz has been charged with being an armed habitual criminal, which carries an extended prison term if he is convicted, along with six counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, unlawful possession of a stolen firearm and unlawful possession of a stolen firearm by a street gang member, all of which are all felonies, as well as driving on a revoked license and driving with an obstructed windshield, which are misdemeanors, according to police.

Fultz is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail at the Kane County jail.

On Friday, police saw Michael Flores, 20, of the 1300 block of Kingston Avenue in Montgomery, in a vehicle in a gas station parking lot near Hill and Summit avenues, police said.

Flores ran from the vehicle while holding his waistband when he saw officers, and investigators who caught up to him and patted him down immediately noticed a firearm sticking out of his pants, according to police.

He was later charged with four counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member and not having a FOID card, police said.

Flores is in the Kane County jail in lieu of $125,000 bail.

On Nov. 8, Aurora police served a search warrant in the 400 block of Trask Street, and the resident, 21-year-old Moises Chavez, was later charged with unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and unlawful possession of cannabis, according to police.

Police said a stolen shotgun, ammunition and about 30 grams of cannabis were seized in the search.
