Metropolis honors Whisler for largest donation ever

Metropolis Performing Arts Centre honored longtime Arlington Heights resident Jack Whisler and his family Tuesday night for making the single largest donation in the theater's history.

Though theater officials have declined to say the amount of the gift at Whisler's request, they say it is "substantial," and will be used to modernize the lobby - which will be named for Whisler and his family - and enhance theater operations.

"We have always supported the Metropolis, from the grand opening until today. He (Jack Whisler) wanted to make a difference and give back some of the benefits he received as a resident and a local business. He hopes this gift will lead to other gifts in the future. We believe the Metropolis Theatre will continue to grow and prosper for years to come," said Bob Whisler, speaking on behalf of his father.

Jack Whisler, 81, is now retired as chairman of Brian Properties, an Arlington Heights commercial real estate management firm. He is also a former president of the Rotary Club and the local chapter of United Way, a charter member of the Arlington Heights Economic Alliance and chairman of the downtown master plan task force.
