Crash leaves parts of Mundelein without power

ComEd crews restored power Wednesday for about 500 customers whose service went out Tuesday night after a two-car crash damaged a utility pole at the intersection of Route 60/83 and Hawley Street in Mundelein.

The crash occurred about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday when a car traveling southbound on Route 60/83 ran the red light at Hawley Street, struck another car then slammed into the utility pole, police said. Three people were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with minor injuries, Deputy Police Chief John Monahan said.

Stop lights at the intersection had been flashing red since the crash. After power returned, a streetlight company was to set the lights to resume normal operations, Monahan said.
