Chance scolds aldermen for spending $95M on 'cop academy,' not schools

Chance the Rapper scolded Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago aldermen Wednesday for their plan to spend $95 million to build a public safety training campus on the West Side when there should be higher priorities - like school and mental health programs.

"What is y'all doing? It doesn't make sense. I'm very confused," Chancelor Bennett told aldermen during a raucous public participation session that took on a celebrity feel with his presence.

"I've been asking for money for over a year now to fund these classrooms and, on the 4th of July weekend, they announced in like a cool financing way that ... they're proposing to build a $95 million cop academy."
