Sea of pink marches in St. Charles cancer walk

Hundreds of people dressed in festive pink outfits and costumes took to the paths around the East Side Sports Complex in St. Charles on Sunday to show support for those impacted by breast cancer.

The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer drew survivors, caregivers, volunteers and corporate and community members hoping to top the $92,000 raised last year to invest in research and support programs.

According to the ACS, an estimated 252,710 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 40,610 will die from the disease this year. About 2,470 men are also expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year with 460 deaths.

  With a total of $3,150, Phyllis Schulte of Mokena collected the most donations of any participant in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 3-mile walk in St. Charles.
