Plainfield police activity puts schools on alert

Plainfield police are searching for a suspect who may be armed near 119th Street and 248th Avenue, according to a Twitter post at 1:15 p.m. from the department.

At that time, police asked residents within a half-mile of the intersection to remain inside. Plainfield North High School was placed on a soft lockdown.

Indian Prairie Unit District 204 spokeswoman Janet Buglio said nearby Crone Middle School in Naperville also took precautions.

"We were in a secure building status for a little bit because of the police investigation in the area," Buglio said via email at 2:38 p.m. "(We're) back to normal and dismissing as usual."
