Aurora man accused of running over relative charged with attempted murder

A 25-year-old Aurora man accused of running over a woman with his pickup truck last weekend has been charged with attempted murder, police said Monday.

Aurora police went to the 1000 block of Lebanon Street shortly before midnight Saturday to reports of a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. They found a woman lying in the street with critical injuries and she was taken to a hospital.

Investigators determined Edgar Alejandro Cruz-Gonzalez, of the 1600 block of Plumtree Lane, and the woman argued during a gathering at the home, police said.

Cruz-Gonzalez left the house as the woman, a 39-year-old relative, followed him to his truck, police said.

Police said Cruz-Gonzalez reversed out of the driveway and drove north when the woman jumped in front of him to stop him from leaving. Cruz-Gonzalez apparently accelerated and ran her over purposely.

After being knocked to the ground the woman was dragged about 10 feet before Cruz-Gonzalez stopped, police said. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Cruz-Gonzalez remained on the scene and was arrested, police said.

He was also charged with aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and two misdemeanors, police said.
