City removing tents that homeless had set up near Uptown viaducts

Homeless people displaced by construction at two Lake Shore Drive viaducts are on the move again.

After taking their tents out of the viaducts at Wilson and Lawrence avenues and settling at a nearby parkway along Wilson on Sunday, city employees told them on Monday they couldn't stay there, either.

By 11:15, city workers were removing the tents - but they weren't going far. Tents and belongings were being carried from the parkway between the sidewalk and Wilson Avenue to a grassy area farther from the road.

There they sat, with their owners, as the tent community pondered their next move. The tents stayed on the ground, flattened.
