Hawthorn Woods opening new nature preserve Sept. 29

Hawthorn Woods will open its newest nature preserve during a public event at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept 29, at 28 Bruce Circle North.

The new facility features walking trails, an observation deck and various natural elements including trees, butterflies, plants, and wildlife.

Brierwoods Preserve is a restoration project designed to create a habitat for migratory Monarch butterflies, which have declined in population, and other pollinator species.

The project to be completed in September, will restore 11.5 acres of land for public use and habitat conservation. The village received a $20,000 grant from CN EcoConnexions From the Ground Up program and developed the project in partnership with America in Bloom.
