Two Glen Ellyn teens charged with burglary

Two Glen Ellyn teenagers are facing burglary charges in connection with a series of thefts that occurred during Realtor open house events.

George Kallas, 19, and Sophie Kallas, 18, both of the 900 block of Newton Avenue, each have been charged with three counts of residential burglary, Glen Ellyn police said.

Authorities said the teens were charged after police investigated multiple reports of personal property being taken from homes during open houses. The offenders posed as interested buyers and allegedly stole jewelry and other items while walking through the homes, police said.

Glen Ellyn police investigated five similar thefts, including some dating to July 23.

George Kallas was arrested Aug. 2. Sophie Kallas turned herself in the next day.

Investigators are continuing to try to identify the owners of some of the property that's been recovered.
