19-year-old Aurora man faces drug, gun charges

A 19-year-old Aurora man remained at the Kane County jail Wednesday after police say they found a loaded gun and marijuana on him during a traffic stop.

Daniel Aguirre, of the 300 block of North Avenue, is charged with four counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and a misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of marijuana. His bond is set at $30,000.

Aguirre was riding in an SUV with a 20-year-old driver about 11:40 p.m. Sunday, according to a post on the Aurora Police Department's Facebook page Wednesday.

Police said officers pulled over the driver after she twice failed to use a turn signal in the area of Ohio Street and Indian Avenue and that officers smelled marijuana inside the SUV. Aguirre initially gave the officers a fake name and refused to get out of the car, police said.

When Aguirre did leave the vehicle, officers told him to put his hands behind his head, but he reached for his waistband instead, police said.

Officers searched him and found a .40-caliber handgun in the front of his pants and more than 12 grams of marijuana in his pocket, according to the release.

The driver of the SUV was released after being issued two traffic citations. A 14-year-old girl who also was in the vehicle was released without charges.

Aguirre is due back in court Aug. 18.
