Barn lost in St. Charles fire

Firefighters on Monday were called to a barn fire in St. Charles that caused about $100,000 in damage, officials say.

The fire started about 1:30 p.m. on the 38W000 block of Sidney Court, Fox River and Countryside Fire Capt. Scott Sutherland said.

The owners were not home when the fire started and no injuries were reported, Sutherland said.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 30 minutes, before the flames could spread to the owners' home. The shed was demolished, and ComEd was on the scene to shut off power, Sutherland said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
