Fugitive from justice featured on television show arrested in Deer Park

A man featured on a television show about fugitives from justice has been arrested in Deer Park on an outstanding warrant, officials said.

Dino Curcio, 58, of the 0-100 block of Corners Drive in Deer Park, was arrested Thursday on a warrant out of Colorado accusing him of sexual assault of a minor. He was also wanted on second warrant out of Iowa charging him with the assault of his wife, officials said.

Sgt. Chris Covelli of the Lake County sheriff's office said Curcio remains held without bond in Lake County jail. He is due to appear before a judge Friday, Aug. 11.

Curcio was taken into custody without incident by the U.S. Marshals Office after he was featured July 29 on an episode of "The Hunt with John Walsh," said Ed Farrell, supervisory inspector for the U.S. Marshal's Office.

Farrell said people who viewed the show called show producers, who then gave information to the marshal's office.

"Members of the community recognized him and tipped off the show," Farrell said. "He was working for a tree-trimming service and living in Deer Park under an alias."

According to the show, which aired on HLN network, Curcio was living in Colorado and worked as a hockey coach when he took in a 17-year-old teen girl in 2005 to help a friend in Sweden.

The victim, who appeared with the name "Elizabeth" on the show, said Curcio raped her repeatedly in 2005, then forced her to marry him in 2006, on her 18th birthday. The two moved to Iowa, where he repeatedly beat her and threatened to kill her if she ever left, Elizabeth said on the show.

She was able to get away from him in 2012, but not before filing a police report of a beating she sustained.

Curcio was charged with serious domestic abuse assault, but left Iowa before going to trial. The charges of sex assault came a short time later after Elizabeth's story was shared with police in Colorado.

Before his arrest Thursday, he was last seen in Washington state in 2015.
