Aurora teen facing drug, gun charges

A 16-year-old from Aurora is facing felony charges after police say they found drugs and a gun on the teen, and a BB gun pistol and alcohol on his 17-year-old friend Sunday.

The teenagers were riding their bikes past curfew and without headlights about 4 a.m. near Hammond and Illinois avenues, according to a post on the Aurora Police Department Facebook page.

When officers went to question the pair, the boys approached a home on the 600 block of Hammond Avenue. The 16-year-old set on the porch what police later learned was a .45 caliber handgun, police said.

Officers found alcohol and a BB gun pistol on the 17-year-old; the 16-year-old had marijuana and Xanax without a prescription, according to the post.

The 16-year-old was taken to the Kane County Youth Home on felony charges of armed violence, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He also was charged with a misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of marijuana.

The 17-year-old was released to a parent and charged with breaking curfew, unlawful possession of an air/spring gun and unlawful possession of alcohol.
