Driver who rolled Jeep into pond hospitalized with minor injuries

A driver who rolled a Jeep into a small retention pond near the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway suffered minor injuries early Tuesday, state police officials said.

The Jeep was traveling in the eastbound lanes of I-90 at 6:40 a.m. when the vehicle rolled over and slid into a retention pond near the northbound lanes of I-294, said Illinois State Police Master Sergent Kevin McGrenera.

An unidentified state trooper who arrived at the scene waded into the knee deep water of the retention pond, broke one of the Jeep windows, and helped the motorist out, McGrenera said.

The driver was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with minor injuries, McGrenera said.

Police did not release the name of the driver of the Jeep and did not say if citations have been issued.
