District 62 hires new student services coordinator

Des Plaines Elementary District 62 has hired from within the district to fill a student services coordinator job.

The school board approved hiring Erica Cupuro, who has been with the district for more than 20 years, at a meeting this month.

Cupuro will be responsible for administering and supervising special education programs and services in compliance with state and federal rules and regulations.

Her previous roles have included building psychologist, psychology department chairwoman and curriculum coordinator.

A certified personal trainer, Cupuro has trained students with autism, as exercise has been proven to increase attention, motivation, and stamina for students with disabilities.

"I am especially excited about our efforts to support students in the area of social emotional learning," Cupuro said in a news release. "I am grateful for the opportunity to help move some of the new practices we have started at the building level to a district level."
