Carpentersville home uninhabitable after fire

A fire Monday evening left a Carpentersville house uninhabitable, fire officials said.

Firefighters were called at about 6:30 p.m. to a single-story, single-family home on Sparrow Road, Carpentersville Fire Chief John-Paul Schilling said.

Firefighters arrived to find one of the home's residents attempting to extinguish and exterior fire with a garden hose, he said.

The fire spread into an attic area and one of the bedrooms, fire officials said. It was deemed uninhabitable.

"At this time, the fire is under investigation," Schilling said.
