St. Demetrios hosts Lake County Greek Fest July 28-30

Celebrate the music, food and culture of Greece in Libertyville when St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church hosts its annual Lake County Greek Fest Friday through Sunday, July 28-30.

Event hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. St. Demetrios is at 1400 O'Plaine Road, Libertyville.

The highlight of the festival is the authentic Greek food available for purchase. Dishes like roast leg of lamb, Athenian chicken, souvlakia (grilled meat on a skewer), pastichio (a baked pasta dish), gyros and more will be available, along with Greek pastries like baklava and loukoumathes among others.

If you're hungry for some Greek cuisine but don't have time to visit the festival, drive through food service will also be offered from 4-7 p.m. each day of Greek Fest.

Drinks will also be available for purchase, including Greek beer and wine, and the Greek Island Breeze cocktail.

The festival also includes rides and games; live Greek music and folk dancers; and Greek jewelry, books and crafts for sale. Visitors will be also able to tour the fifth century-design Byzantine church with pastor Father Cosmas Halekakis.

A raffle will be held with a first prize of $10,000, second prize of $2,500, third and fourth prize of $1,000 and fifth prize of $500.

Admission to Greek Fest is free, and free parking is available on-site.
