Seven places accused of selling alcohol to underage customers

Lake County sheriff's police say seven places illegally sold alcohol to underage customers who were part of periodic compliance checks.

Sheriff's police Sgt. Christopher Covelli announced Saturday that detectives completed their first round of annual checks meant to ensure stores, gasoline stations and other establishments vending are not selling alcohol to anyone younger than 21.

Authorities said seven of 57 places sold alcohol to underage patrons when the checks were performed last month. Employees at four establishments did not examine the identification of the underage customers and three checked the IDs, but still sold the alcohol to the patrons who were younger than 21.

Following are the places where the sales to the minors took place: Shell at 41867 N. Route 41, Wadsworth; Anna's Marketplace, 38512 N. Sheridan Road, Beach Park; 7-Eleven, 37763 N. Green Bay Road, Beach Park; Lake Bluff Petroleum, 218 Waukegan Road, Lake Bluff; Country Corner, 1741 Diamond Lake Road, Mundelein; Gages Lake Shell, 33978 N Route 45, unincorporated Lake County; and Thorntons, 34225 N. Route 45 in Third Lake.

Police said workers at the accused establishments were ticketed for selling alcohol to a minor.
