Libertyville helps butterflies

Libertyville officials have taken common milkweed off the list of noxious weeds in the municipal code. The village board this week approved a resolution saying that because Monarch butterflies lay their eggs on common milkweed plants, it is in the best interest of the community and residents to provide a habitat for them. Village code requires owners to pull or destroy weeds at least twice a year. Mayor Terry Weppler said the ordinance in general is outdated and the board also directed it be reviewed by the Sustain Libertyville Commission.
