Car burns but Naperville house saved

Naperville firefighters extinguished a car fire inside a garage Friday morning in time to save a house on the 1300 block of Pickwick Court, authorities said.

No one was injured and the house on the city's northwest side was deemed habitable by an inspector after 24 firefighters put out the fire in roughly 20 minutes, Bureau Chief Jim Kubinski said in a news release.

The response began when a resident called 911 at 9:51 a.m. to report a fire in her garage.

When the first firefighters arrived four minutes later, they determined the flames were coming from a vehicle inside the garage. Fire and heavy smoke were coming from the garage and the car itself was "fully involved" in flames, Kubinski said.

While some first responders were attacking the car fire, others brought a second hose line into the house and made sure the blaze didn't spread to the living area, Kubinski said.

Firefighters then stayed on the scene another 90 minutes to salvage and clean up.
