Naperville library adds work to 95th Street renovation

A renovation project under way at the 95th Street Library in south Naperville is expanding to include improvements to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system of the 13-year-old building.

The library board approved $38,900 worth of additional work on top of the project's $2.7 million budget to separate exhaust from bathrooms and quiet the sound coming from exhaust fan motors to address noise concerns.

95th Street Library Manager Karen Dunford said the recently added projects will enhance the face-lift the library already is getting through its first renovation since 2009.

"Codes changed since the building was built and then there were a few trouble spots," Dunford said about the ventilation system in the library at 3015 Cedar Glade Road. "So it was a combination effort to try to remedy things."

The renovation is expected to address issues of worn furniture and carpeting, as the library sees heavy use from students at nearby Neuqua Valley High School, and to add new spaces for studying and creative work.

The project includes new furniture and flooring, a recording studio, a green-screen room, more quiet study rooms and electrical outlets and a new teen space with a gaming center.

Once work is complete, the first floor of the library will be designated a social zone and the second floor a quiet zone.

Improvements at the 95th Street Library follow similar projects to update the library's other branches at Naper Boulevard in 2015 and Nichols last year. Work at 95th Street is expected to be complete this fall.
