Distracted driver safety campaign

The Lake County Sheriff's Office and several other Illinois law enforcement agencies will focus on enforcing distracted driving laws April 24-28.

Those texting while driving can expect to be pulled over, police said.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 3,477 people were killed - up 9 percent - and an estimated 391,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2015. Sheriff's deputies also will monitor for traffic violations in constructions zones throughout Lake County.
