Dragonflies focus of Lake County Audobon event

"Dragonflies and Damselflies, Natural History of Odonata" is the topic of the Lake County Audubon Society meeting from 7:30 to 9 p.m. May 1, at Libertyville village hall, 118 W. Cook Ave.

Marla Garrison, a biology faculty member at McHenry County College, is the speaker. Odonata is an ancient group with ancestors dating back over 300 million years to a time when dragonfly-like creatures with 2½-foot wingspans ruled the air. Garrison's local area field guide is available online for free download through the Chicago Field Museum of Natural History site.

There is no admission charge and children are welcome.
