Aurora police investigate multiple gunshots, recover stolen gun

Police are investigating a string of drive-by shootings reported this weekend in Aurora.

No injuries were reported after shots were fired between Saturday morning and Sunday night throughout the city, police said.

A 21-year-old man told police he got into an argument at 1 a.m. Saturday with multiple people inside a white Ford Taurus. The man and a group of friends were outside in the 700 block of Logan Avenue when someone in the Ford Taurus pulled out a handgun and fired one shot into the air, according to a post from the Aurora Police Department on its Facebook page. The car took off southbound, and a second shot was fired from the same vehicle near Logan and Simms streets, police said.

Shortly after, officers saw a car that matched the Ford's description speeding near Middle Avenue and Gale Street, where it stopped and took off again. Police stopped the car near Lake and Cross streets. Meanwhile, officers searched Middle Avenue, and found a 9 mm handgun that had been reported stolen out of Kenosha, Wisconsin, according to the Facebook post.

The five men in the Ford Taurus - ages 22, 23, 24 and 28 - and a 25-year-old woman were questioned by police. They have since been released while the investigation is underway.

Police received another report of shots fired at 11:10 p.m. Sunday. A home in the 300 block of West Downer Place was shot at several times, officials said

Police have asked anyone with information to call Aurora Police Investigations at 630-256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000.
