Science Jam provides closer look at STEM fields

The Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts hosted Science Jam 2017 Wednesday evening at Woodland Middle School in Gurnee.

The event featured hands-on science experiments that engaged kids in science, technology, engineering and math.

"It's an opportunity for them to learn a little bit more about what Scouting is about and also do some fun experiments and try some new things they've never done before," said event organizer Pete Adrian of Gurnee.

Science stations included: Making Slime, Exploding Toothpaste, Squeeze Bottle Rockets, Salt Water Cars, Extracting DNA, Chicken In a Cup, Catapults, Whirligigs, Pop Your Top, and Human Conductor.

Cub Scout leaders in Woodland packs 627, 671 and 672 helped lead the event, which was open to boys and girls in grades K-8.

Helping out were members of the Navy as well as the Carmel High School robotics team and the Lake County Forest Preserve.
