Shade needed for rooftop anniversary party

Our condo's rooftop deck is the quandary and we will celebrate the 50-year anniversary of nursing here! I know how to garden but it's very sunny up here. What can we do to keep it pleasant and memorable? The gathering will probably be 20 old gals who have spent many happy years in health care. They deserve comfort and TLC. I would love to do that for my classmates! The ladies are unique as is this space.
