Here's a sneak peek at Disney World's new Toy Story Land
Walt Disney World fans have a lot of exciting new things to look forward to this summer, but the most anticipated event is the opening of Toy Story Land on June 30.
Spanning 11 acres in Disney's Hollywood Studios, Toy Story Land contains new rides, a restaurant and more. Here's what you can expect:
Andy's Backyard
If you enjoyed the larger-than-life feel of the old “Honey, I Shrunk The Kids” play area, you'll feel right at home in Andy's Backyard. This new land makes you feel like you've been reduced to the size of a toy. What kid wouldn't love being surrounded by giant games, crayons, green army men and building blocks? My 6-year-old is going to be in heaven.
Slinky Dog Dash Rollercoaster
With a height requirement of 38 inches, the Slinky Dog Dash is a family-friendly ride that even the smaller kids can enjoy. It looks like this coaster will be similar to Goofy's Barnstormer in the Magic Kingdom.
You'll sit in Slinky Dog as he zips around the track and gives you panoramic views of Toy Story Land. It's colorful and fun and I can already tell that this ride is going to be a fan favorite (meaning you'll want to get there early to beat the lines).
Alien Swirling Saucers
Hop aboard an Alien Swirling Saucer where you'll ride through a play set that Andy won at Pizza Planet. If you're lucky, you might just get chosen by “The Claw.” I haven't been able to find out exactly what that means, so I guess it'll just have to be a surprise once Toy Story Land opens.
With fun music, lighting, sound effects and a height limit of 32 inches, this ride is also family-friendly.
Toy Story Mania
This pre-existing ride - one of the most popular rides in Hollywood Studios - is going to have an all-new entrance designed to look like a toy carnival game box. Plus, there's now a new third track to cut down on long wait lines.
Just waiting in line for Toy Story Mania is fun though because you get to wander through giant games, oversized toy airplanes and more. In this 3D midway-style game, you'll pop balloons with “darts,” throw virtual baseballs at plates and engage in more target practice as you compete against your family or friends for the high score.
Woody's Lunch Box
If you get hungry, drop by Woody's Lunch Box for a bite to eat. Walk up to the window to order meals, old-fashioned soda floats or even mini Babybel cheese. In fitting with the theme, the restaurant is surrounded by a giant vintage Thermos and some of Andy's favorite toys.
If you're in Hollywood Studios between now and June 30, you can check out the model of the new Toy Story Land at Walt Disney Presents.
