Old tile and grout need attention

My bathroom tile could be as old as the house when it was built in 1969. It's ugly, the grout is pulling away and the soap dish collects water in the holes.

The tub is cast iron and the pipes still have antique brass parts. Help!

Budget: $5,000 to $10,000

The area in Laurie's bathroom that needs to be addressed first requires removal of the tile and grout. This is because damaged tile frequently needs to be replaced and has a tendency to mold.

Suggestions

• We would replace the cast iron tub with a new acrylic tub.

• We would also install a new faucet and handheld shower on a slide bar, which allows Laurie to adjust the height to any desired location.

• Install a new acrylic wall system around the tub.

• Add soap dish and corner caddie for storage.
