How some local acts are rocking for Halloween

Halloween is coming up faster than a carload of creepy clowns flocking to a makeup sale. Local musicians have been working hard on tributes to beloved bands, some even in full costume for the holiday. Here are a few in the city and the suburbs to see:

• Downers Grove's North of Eight is setting aside their usual raucous jams for two nights as Pink Floyd and the Grateful Dead. 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at The Uptown, 12 W. • The Empty Bottle makes Halloween a chance to honor a legendary musician with A Very Petty Halloween. Tight Pettyz, The Heartburns, The Traveling Gnarburys, Al Scorch, Flamingo Rodeo, Danny Black and DJ Sarah Frier will play their best Tom Petty and Petty-inspired tunes, and costumes are welcome. $10 suggested donation directly benefits United for Puerto Rico, but admission is free with donation of goods for those in need. 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, at The Empty Bottle, 1035 N.
