Dann Gire's 5 films to watch out for this fall
1. “Justice League” (Nov. 17) — Can the DC Comics universe parallel the success of Marvel's “Avengers” with its all-star superhero team? Or will it go the way of Superman?
2. “Professor Marston & the Wonder Women” (Oct. 13) — The shocking, kinky origins of Wonder Woman are revealed in this fact-based drama about her creator, Harvard psychologist William Marston.
3. “Blade Runner 2049” (Oct. 6) — Three film shorts precede this long-awaited sequel in which Officer K (Ryan Gosling) searches for old blade runner Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), missing for 30 years. Could K be a replicant as suggested in the trailer?
4. “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” (Nov. 10) — Mildred Hayes (Frances McDormand) creates three road signs criticizing a revered sheriff (Woody Harrelson) for making no arrests in her daughter's rape/murder, setting off a firecracker chain of events leading to potential Oscar nominations.
5. “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” (Nov. 3) — Doctors play God all the time. This one (Colin Farrell) collides with a Greek myth about an ancient leader punished for killing a sacred deer by the goddess Artemis. To escape punishment, the leader must sacrifice his daughter. And the doc has one (Raffey Cassidy) in Yorgos Lanthimos' anticipated tale.
