'Singin' in the Rain' showing, kids movies highlight upcoming film events

<h3 class="briefHead">A glorious feeling </h3>

The Genesee Theatre celebrates the 65th anniversary of what some critics say is the greatest musical ever committed to celluloid, "Singin' in the Rain." The masterpiece - starring Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds - will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 22, at the Genesee Theatre, 203 N. Genesee St., Waukegan.

Tickets range from $6 to $20, available at the Genesee Theatre Box Office, Ticketmaster.com and at Ticketmaster at (800) 982-2787.

<h3 class="briefHead">Kid-friendly flicks</h3>

It's Elmhurst's Movies in the Park! The animated comedy "The Secret Life of Pets" will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 16, at Wilder Park, 175 S. Prospect Ave., Elmhurst. Free admission. Food truck vendors will be there, too. The show starts at dusk. The Movies in the Park is organized by the Elmhurst Park District and Elmhurst Public Library. Go to epd.org.

Or if you'd prefer a Flick n' Float Night, watch the animated comedy "Sing" at 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 16, at the Geneva Park District swimming pool, 710 Western Ave., Geneva. Go to genevaparks.org.

You can also catch a free viewing of "Sing" at dusk, Friday, June 16, at the Hawthorn Woods Park District, 5 Park View Lane, Hawthorn Woods. (847) 438-5500.

For Father's Day on Sunday, you can treat Dad to a free small popcorn with the purchase of a hot dog at the Paragon Theater, 53 S. Evergreen Ave., Arlington Heights. (You can upgrade to the large for $1.) Go to paragontheaters.com.

Also at the Paragon Theater in Arlington Heights, free showings of the delightful animated comedy "ParaNorman" are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, June 20, 21 and 22. First come, first served on the seating.
