Old umbrellas fail to impress

The biggest problem with our deck is lack of shade. We get strong winds, so umbrellas or pop-up shades will not work. In addition, our deck furniture is rusty and we need to touch up the paint each year.

A structure to provide some shade but not block off the view from the deck would be great.

Owner used traditional umbrellas in past that did not work on the deck because of weight.

Suggestions

• Cantilever umbrella

A cantilever umbrella solution is appropriate because of its construction and weight. A 11-foot wide cantilever umbrella has many easy to operate positions. It pivots and has the flexibility to move to the other side of a seating area as the sun moves across the deck. It folds easily for storage and storms.

• Dining

A table in this area would not interfere with traffic flow from house. The built-in benches next to dining area are perfect for overflow guests.

• Seating

There's room on this deck for the comfort of a gliding love seat.
