Vote for responsible, independent voice

I will be voting this November to re-elect Tom Morrison as my state representative. Tom Morrison is one of the most ethical, dedicated and available politicians that I have ever known. That is I why I am sickened every time I receive a mailer from his opponent with outlandish statements that are either completely false or bend the truth to an extreme.

In her mailers, Tom's opponent claims he "refused to balance the budget for more than 700 days," citing his "nay" vote on budget bill HB 109. To begin with, this was not a balanced budget, projected to be in the red by a whopping $590 million. Secondly, it was the Democratic leadership in the Illinois legislature are that refused to advance for a vote any budget for two full years, even with their party holding a majority in both houses.

Tom's opponent then makes the outlandish claim that he "voted to kick survivors of domestic violence out of shelters," again citing his vote on HB 109 which was solely for voting against the unbalanced budget. Tom never voted to kick anyone out of a shelter. His challenger must be truly desperate if she has to resort to this extreme fabrication of the truth.

For years Tom has tried to fix the broken public pension system in Illinois, which is currently over $130 billion in the red. Illinois is in this situation through decades of overpromising and underfunding public pensions, causing the bond rating agencies to downgrade Illinois just one notch from "junk" status.

If you want more of the same fiscal mismanagement, then by all means vote for Tom's challenger. But, if you are like me and want an independent voice in Springfield that will stand up to fiscal irresponsibility then vote for Tom Morrison as your representative this November.
