More constructive crime protest needed

Disrupting expressway commuter traffic with protests isn't going to change the violence and oppression that has plagued the Chicago West and South sides for decades. It's not a police, mayor or even a gun problem. It's a community problem.

The Chicago police are by no means choir boys, but wouldn't it be a better use of (police) resources if these marches occurred during key crime times in those neighborhoods? The police have to be present anyway. Citizens need to form a crime watch around the clock. Cook County doesn't have the financial means to police any community 24/7.

The saddest part of all this is so many innocent lives have been lost. Not only in the mentioned areas but across the city and suburbs. The crime rate has escalated at an alarming rate. It's not only disturbing but an embarrassment to say you live here. When the area you live in is almost on a national news broadcast every evening. It's no small wonder why so many people are abandoning the state. I fear we are becoming another Detroit or worse. How sad this lack of respect for our fellow man.
