We all make America amazing

I am a half-Mexican, half-European woman who is a reproductive health care provider for Planned Parenthood of Illinois. My mother was not born in America and was brought to a new part of the world when she was just a young child. The United States is cherished for being a melting pot. That's why it's vital we stand with immigrants.

Immigrants bring their cultures from all over the world, and I believe that's beautiful. My maternal grandparents didn't know much English, but that didn't stop them from working to meet their goals. They became familiar faces in their community by helping those in need. They soon became successful homeowners. When it was time for them to purchase a new vehicle, they donated their car to a family in need.

They took pride in helping others, regardless of differences. My grandparents worked hard for their family and helped those along the way that were struggling. They were the perfect example of what immigrants strive for, making a fresh start and working hard to live the American dream.

At Planned Parenthood, our mission is to care, no matter what. We see a wide spectrum of people and immigrants are part of the patients that we care for. It truly is heartbreaking to feel like we are being stopped from helping the community. We want to help everyone that needs affordable and accessible care.

It's critical we take a stand for immigrants because they are a huge part of what America is all about. Each of us come from a story of immigration. It might've been from your parents, grandparents, or even many generations ago. Nevertheless, we all make America amazing and it's time we take a stand for the immigrants of today.
