What might have been
When I read about the troubles with North Korea, it makes me sick to my stomach. McArthur had them beaten in the early '50s, and was ready to make one unified democratic country. Then captured Chinese revealed that the Chinese were massing by the thousands across the Yalu. The general asked Washington for permission to bomb the Yalu bridges and supply lines in Mancuria. The answer from Washington was no. A police action up until then became an ugly war. Outnumbered 100 to one, the general's promise to the men to be home by Christmas could not be met.
