An unusual invitation to gun-control meeting
On May 5, a writer wrote that "Roskam meets in closed-door session with students on gun issues."
Last month, these students invited Roskam to publicly address gun violence at a town hall in downtown Glen Ellyn. Hundreds of constituents attended the meeting. It was so crowded there was a one-out-one-in line at the door after the town hall began. Because Roskam would not show up, his challenger Casten did.
Roskam once again cowers in the face of constituents - this time, teenagers. These same teenagers are living in fear of being shot at school. These teenagers are showing greater courage than a grown man by speaking publicly on an issue that matters to them and that requires immediate attention.
They are asking hard questions and wiping tears on stage. The fact that Roskam can't even show up to a closed-door meeting with minors who might disagree with him and that he requires other minors with opposing views to attend at the same time shows that he is undeniably unfit to lead.
I wonder if the gun violence prevention advocates in the community will be invited next the time the NRA lobby wants to have a closed-door meeting with him. Somehow I doubt it.
