How well have current media served us?

In response to your "Our View" editorial response to the sale of WGN-TV to Sinclair Broadcasting, I'd like to point out some things your editorial board chose not to address. "Chicago's Very Own" WGN-TV, WGN Radio 720 and the Chicago Tribune, all owned by the same company for decades, never bothered you. They always acted altruistically; they never had an agenda, Right?

Indeed, they were so good at reporting only "real news" for the past 60 years, that it helped foster the best democracy of any state ... only one party in Chicago and only one party controlling our state legislature.

Do you recall any Republican Chicago mayors, aldermen or speakers of the House? Any? The kept us so well-informed about pensions, unbalanced budgets and warned us about our imminent debt. Right?

Those poor news anchors ... they've never, ever had to read a prepared script before, until now. Really?

God knows what to expect from that "new" upstart Sinclair company. They've only been around for 47 years with about 90 stations nationwide. You scare us that the balance of broadcast media will shift unequally. Really?

Have CBS (WBBM) NBC (WMAQ) ABC (WLS) PBS (WTTW) as well as CNN and MSNBC recently all become outlets for conservative, Republican views? Oh, that's right, none of them. Today, our choice is so sparse, not like in the old days. Right?

If only we had enough brains (and a remote) to change the channel.

Being a longtime subscriber to the Daily Herald and lifetime resident of Illinois, I'm well aware of WGN's and your half-truth, biased reporting
