Stop killers before they reach the school door
Teaching is a very important job. Teachers must be focused at all times on the students. They are charged with the education and discipline of a room full of children in various stages of growing up. It is a big responsibility.
It is grossly unfair to ask teachers to assume the additional duty of security guard. Arming teachers may or may not discourage some, but predators must be stopped long before they reach the classroom door.
Security guards at a school would be an equally important job. Guards would have to be alert at all times in order to protect the school from predators. Neither teacher nor security guard should be expected to perform additional duties while doing the important job they were hired to do.
I see security guards everywhere. Factories, gated communities, office buildings and more. Even some politicians have them. Yes, they cost money.
Those entities that have them have determined it a necessary expense. Aren't our children just as important?
