Do your homework; don't believe mailers

Last month, I received six political mailers filled with disinformation targeting Jillian Bernas, who is running for state representative in the 56th District. I thought I had seen the last of them because Jillian's opponent, Char Kegarise admitted to the Daily Herald (February 22, 2018) that the mailers "have no basis in fact" and she was not responsible.

She blamed the House Republican Organization. She told the Daily Herald that HRO paid for the mailers. and she had nothing to do with them. Jillian called on Kegarise to fire the people responsible for the mailers, and Kegarise admitted to working closely with only one of the three people identified.

What Char Kegarise failed to mention was that HRO recruited her to run. The Daily Herald wrote on December 8, 2017, "late this fall Kegarise said, the state's House Republican Organization reached out to her with an offer of its support if she would run.

Yesterday, another mailer appeared in my mailbox trying to link Jillian to Madigan. As Ronald Reagan said, "Here we go again." I can't believe Char Kegarise and HRO think the voters are that stupid. We remember Jillian from 2016 and her campaign to unseat Michelle Mussman. Jillian was a newcomer, and she and her volunteers walked the neighborhoods seeking support. I spoke with Jillian at my front door. She told me her campaign had forced Madigan to spend over $1 million in mailers and false TV ads to protect Mussman. Jillian fought the Madigan Machine in 2016.

These Kegarise mailers make me really angry. I'm offended that HRO is making up lies to frighten uninformed Republicans. Republicans should choose the best candidate to beat Mussman or forget about ever winning. My advice is do your homework before you vote.
