Give attention to needs of children
In February, the month of Valentine's Day, it's a good time to remember that parents everywhere love their kids and want what's best for them. But sadly, many children around the world and here at home do not have what they deserve - a fair opportunity to succeed.
As someone who has witnessed poverty, I understand the importance of having access to medicine and medical care. Growing up in Kolkata, India, I saw many children suffer from physical disabilities and were unable to receive treatment. Worldwide, 15,000 children die every day from treatable illnesses like pneumonia and malaria.
However, Congress has the power to improve the lives of children and families throughout the world. Please join me in asking our members of Congress, including Sens. Durbin and Duckworth and our congressmen to have a heart and invest in kids by providing robust funding for critical early learning, child care and health programs.
