Consider problem of unnamed sources

If memory or history serve me correctly, a law was passed many years ago to protect people who stepped forward to provide information to the press concerning crimes. The law, which still exists allows the media, which now includes TV news and talk shows to protect the source of their information regardless of the subject of their news.

Perhaps it is time to re-look how this law is used. Much has been said of late about "fake news" which usually involves stories being leaked about the government or well-known political or Hollywood personalities.

Perhaps now is the time to prohibit publishing or broadcasting information provided by unnamed sources.

Perhaps the public would have more confidence in the news media and the honesty of the news if the media had to identify their source. I think this is most important today in view of the many investigations currently going on in Washington and the many unnamed sources being quoted.
