Need to elect pols on merit, not money

I must admit I do not know that much about politics. But, it angers me when people are elected to office, who probably know as much about them as I do because they have the funds to be elected.

Why isn't there campaign funding reform? To me it is common sense that if we want qualified people to be our leaders, they should be elected on their merit and not on their ability to buy the office.

I used to think that someone who had business experience and was not involved in politics would make a good leader. I can name two examples where this has backfired.

My husband and I recently attended a Town Hall meeting and listened to Congressman Daniel Biss answer questions. I think it is very sad that a candidate for governor, who has served in Congress and sponsored many bills, may lose the Democratic nomination because of his economic status. Already it appears that one of his wealthier opponents has the support and backing of the party.

Well, I can only sum this up by shrugging and saying, "That's politics."
