Dissolve sanitary district soon as possible

McHenry County Board Chairman Jack Franks' exposure of the shady dealings of the Lake in the Hills Sanitary District and his willingness to fight for the taxpayers is a welcome relief from the high tax status quo. Thank goodness someone cares about taxpayers.

Franks is fighting the purchase of an almost million dollar parcel using taxpayer dollars in Kane County, which has nothing to do with the provision of services to the Lake in the Hills Sanitary District. It is actually being purchased to stop the proposed consolidation of this unnecessary and duplicative unit of government.

This unchecked fiefdom is run by an executive director making six figures along with full health benefits and a massive pension. The sanitary district is fighting consolidation because the people who run it have so much to lose. They are milking the taxpayers, costing them at least $400,000 a year in additional unnecessary costs.

I hope that Chairman Franks is successful in stopping this abuse and that the sanitary district is dissolve as quickly as possible. If we are ever to reduce our property taxes, we must reduce the number of local governments and hold them accountable. Fortunately we have Franks as a chairman on our side. If anyone can get this accomplished, he is the guy.
