Budget business as usual

Our Illinois legislators finally passed a budget, and basically decided to kick the proverbial can farther down the road. Gov. Rauner, whom the people of Illinois voted for two years ago, was unable to get many of his reforms in this budget.

These included workers comp changes, a property tax freeze and of course term limits.

So, it's business as usual for our Madigan-run state.

More taxes, less services, and under-funded pensions. Could Illinois become the first state to declare bankruptcy?

Our state also coincidentally achieved another milestone. Speaker Madigan either just became or is about to become the longest-tenured speaker of any state in history.

Congratulations, Speaker Madigan. You must be proud.
