We should consider voting by mail

As Josef Stalin famously said, "It doesn't matter who votes, it's who counts the votes."

In 2002, following the debacle of the 2000 Presidential Election, Congress passed The Help America Vote Act, which among other things, paid for "upgraded" voting machines which are largely still in use. Over the years, there has been frequent criticism of the vulnerability of these machines to hacking by individuals who wish to influence an election.

This seems like an issue that the public should weigh in on, so I will put in my two cents. I would like to float the idea of voting by mail in the future. This would eliminate the need for many of the current crop of voting machines. I'm sure some clever IT company could develop a technology that would bypass the software vulnerability that is the cause of so much concern.

There would be cost trade off's to consider. Someone at the Election Commission could make those calculations. I suspect it would cost less to vote by mail. And there is the additional bonus of supporting the United States Postal System, which is always under fire from a Congress that wants to privatize it and everything else it can to benefit their donor class.

It's important that we get this right to ensure the trust of the American Voter in view of the ongoing cyber hacking that the Russians and others are engaging in.
